After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Oakland University along with a double minor in Journalism and

Advertising, Katie Phelan moved to Indianapolis to pursue her dance career. While performing locally, she continued to build her marketing and graphic design career on the side. As a marketing coordinator for Phoenix Rising Dance Company, she created content for social media including video, photos, and Instagram grids. 

 

While stationed in Indy, she toured with Kids Artistic Review, an international dance competition company. While on tour, she worked closely with L.A.-based photographers and videographers to refine her skills of sport/action photography and videography. 

 

In 2017, Katie moved to Chicago to dance and work as the marketing manager for Ascendence Dance Chicago. After designing a new website and revamping their social media sites, she worked to rebrand the company name and logo to AscenDance Chicago.

 

Katie currently works for Broadway In Chicago as a graphic designer and marketing assistant. Through Broadway In Chicago’s workload, Katie uses her skills as a graphic designer, graphic animator, videographer, and video editor. 

 

Many of Katie's work samples, originally created and localized for Broadway In Chicago, have been added (in an unlocalized format) to the touring shows' global content for other markets. Examples include: Hamilton, Cats, Falsettos, Les Miserable, Once On This Island, and Come From Away. 

RESUME

A majority of Katie's work with Broadway In Chicago is customizing each National Touring Broadway show's standard promotional art for local audiences. Some of the content is provided by the, but most is created for the Chicago network. She also works to develop new, on-brand content for Broadway In Chicago that is not show related. 

While working on numerous graphics for BIC’s vast array of shows, it is important to maintain the branding of both Broadway In Chicago and the show’s guidelines. Through this experience, she has built a stronger brand awareness.

SNAPCHAT FILTERS

These Snapchat filters are localized and used by Broadway In Chicago for the duration of the show's run. Some shows provide Snapchat designs while some only provide the general artwork of the show.  Katie has built the graphic from scratch in those cases. 

These filters are used by hundreds of theatre patrons when they come to Broadway In Chicago theatre to see a show. Locations include: The Jame M. Nederlander Theatre, The Cadillac Palace Theatre, The Broadway Playhouse, The CIBC Theatre, and The Auditorium Theatre. 

ANIMATION & VIDEO EDITING

Very few shows provide animated graphics; most are done by Broadway in Chicago. Many videos Broadway In Chicago produces are brainstormed, requested, filmed, and edited by Broadway In Chicago. 

While originally created and localized for Broadway In Chicago, many animations and videos have been added (in an unlocalized format) to the touring shows' global content for other markets. Examples include: Hamilton, Cats, Falsettos, Les Miserable, Once On This Island, and Come From Away. 

IN TOO DEEP

In Too Deep is a Broadway In Chicago's new interview series that is published on YouTube and shared on all Broadway In Chicago social channels. The below example was picked up by LES MISERABLES social channels and Broadway World social channels.
